Simulating a cookie in Yottaa Monitor or Yottaa Benchmarks

No, not the delicious, sugary treat. Cookies are used as a method of adding a small amount of information to a user's browser. Usually these are used to let your website know if the user has visited before and can store other types of information.

Yottaa Monitor and Yottaa Benchmarks, by default, do not store cookies for tests. This can be simulated, however, by adding a custom HTTP header in the advanced section for each type of test.

Simulating cookies in Yottaa monitor

  1. Get to the configuration options for the monitor one of two ways
    • View all your monitors by clicking on the "Monitors" tab and then selecting the checkbox next to the monitor you desire to change and clicking configure.
    • View all your monitors by clicking on the "Monitors" tab and click the individual monitor you desire to change. On the summary page for the monitor click the "Configure" button in the top right corner of the page.
  1. When at the configuration options select the "Advanced" tab.
  2. On the Advanced tab put the word "Cookie" in the "Custom HTTP Header:" section and the name and value you'd like to assign in the "Value" text field, in the format "CookieName=Value".

It is important to note that blank cookie value names must have some actual value assigned to it in the monitor, whether the cookie value has any actual value assigned for it. For example if the cookie value visited had no true or false or numeric value assigned to it, adding the "=1" allows the monitor to run as intended even though it does not exist in the cookie itself.
  3. When finished click the "Save" button

Specifying multiple cookies

To specify multiple cookies in a monitor or benchmark, follow the steps outlined above up to step 3. In step 3, you will specify all the cookies by using the "CookieName=Value" format, separating each cookie with a semicolon as shown in the following example:
